Hard drive compatability between T60p and W700

Hi,

I currently have a T60p with SSD.

I am thinking about upgrading to a W700 and I would like to know if the hard drives are compatible.

Thanks,

hi Turbo;
Most T60P are SATA I hard drives... and not sure WHICH MODEL you have , but SSD should generally fit , as long as they are SATAII compatable.
And if you , you can always use the EXISTING SSD in spare slot , as a secondary storage or even in Raid setup , as the 2nd slot in W700 is always more 'flexable' with/in Hard drive configurations. I even had a NORMAL HD(7200 500gb seagate) running with 128gb as master drive !!
W700 do come with SSD from factory, which what I ordered in RAID 0 My ONE W700 ELITE Works super fast - Win7 ulti boots in under 12 sec in mine even though twin-128GBSSD's are nearly full - loaded with APPS like autoCAD; CS4; MSO2008; SAP Apps with MSSQL etc etc ...

.... AND I HAVE Triple BOOT with IBM LINUX & OSX(SL upgraded)!!! (nope no VMware here!!

NEVER FEAR , as SSD is the way to go , in newer W700's best choice in my view even if Lenovo charges extra for these items.

I wasn't even aware there were different versions of SATA. I have an X60 Tablet. I took one of my W700's SSDs out and put it in the Tablet and it works fine so there is no reason it shouldn't work the other way around.

The Samsung SSDs that come with the W700 require adapter rails as well as the Rubber pieces that would come with the normal drive. Your drive may or may not need these adapters. If you try to install a drive without the adapters you may regret it. Another forum member managed to break the connector on his system board due to the lack of support.

I'd like to install OSX. Please give some details.

Hi there
There are Two TYPES of 2.5' SATA drives.
If you see cheaper prices for SAME SIZE, then BUYER BEWARE!!Often there is no way to tell the differance physically!

Sata ! = 150MB Only = mostly used in Earlier laptops - generally 4200 and 5400RPMS drives at various sizes. These were mostly used in Early T series laptops - T60s -and generally upgrading these (to SATA II) would see NO MAJOR changes in "read or write' speeds . These drives are generally known as "150 or 1.5" 2.5' sata drives

Sata II - these generally are newer drives that most Current latpops use. Thise drives were mostly developed for Intel series APPLE Pro laptops and kinda migrated to other latops/PC..... Some T60p series started using these and most T400- 500 etc use these now with '300MB' speeds -generally known as "3.0" 2.5' sata drives drives.

Hope these help....

Note > the so called "rubber pads" and "metal caddy" are very very impportant items and have a huge and critical purpose in Lenovo laptops. it might seem just a cheap (nasty smelling when new) parts but they are critical and serve two critical purposes:
1) Eleminate/reduce vibrations transmissions - from hard drive to laptop Sys BD & ROLL CAGE Frame ...
2) Reduce heat transfer to laptop frame.....
3) The metal cages that surrounds most SATA DRIVES in lbm/lenovo series laptops are also an "insulating" item that stop HARD METALtp METAL contact between the HD and laptop ROLL CAGE (FRAME). Stops electrical 'shorts' between HD and FRAME
4) Rubber boots help align and give current height for HD to connect to the SATA SLOT when you push the HD @ install

Here is a link ( sold via this forum link above)
http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?mai ... &cPath=2_7

As a side note = IBM LAPTOP ROLL CAGE is the same roll cage used in panasonic 'tuff laptops! and yes you can drive over it with a CAR as seen in few utube videos <ps dont go testing your laptops under your car now !!>

These rubber 'boots' are nothing new for those who have had APPLE LAPTOPS, as its been used in most ALL of laptops that APPLE MAKED!!

The SSD if you buy from Lenovo , do come with an 'install kit" that includes these 'spaces needed to corrently align, insulate and 'spacers' that adjust to fit the cavity for CORRECT INSTALL.Thus the SSD dont rattle or sit at an incline in the bay and stress the connectors!!

FYI-some benchmarking rates published here are nearly HALF what I can get on my W700&500 ,,,, but then i know its not APPLE to APPLES comparisions

No platter based drive can go above SATA I speed. Whether it's SATA I or II is irrelevant. T4x machines used PATA drives, not SATA.

Nice catch. I totally missed that. It would have been nice if the PATA-SATA bridge in the T43 could have just been an inline adapter.
