Before you place your order on a new W510, check out this article about the difference in performance between the i7 processors:

yip.... Mr Pocket....very intresting INDEAD!!!
As Mr Leitner is a very well respected tester!! I would note however , his tests - its an EARLY EARLY (9th month09)test results (kinda like pre-release of i7 series in laptops!

Like his work though!!......###
......####>>
However as a business user there things in newer T410/T510 - that really makes me happy are :

1) 16GB Bios STANDARD SUPPORT (and I can stop having to modify that myself!!)

2) i7 proc / V2 tech from intel and ability to (Virtual)load Xp from downloads etc

3) eSata Port(s)

4) 16:9 Display for busines displays to HD format screen layout!

5) Always on USB Port - My Personal fav (as i dont have to really boot up windows to charge up my I/phone ...

I have to say I am slightly surprised that you favor the "new" aspect ratio 16:9 :P The whole 16:9 story is such a non-sense (IMHO), adjusting screen size to HD movie aspect ratio  (wtf?)... Laptops getting longer and in fact bigger (if the diagonal can be any measure for the total size, excluding here thickness) with less usable space (in the vertical). While I can see that in the mass market widescreens are much more preferred than classic aspect ratio screens, I don´t see a single reason why 16:10 should be replaced by something like 16:9... To be honest, I can hardly imagine working on something shorter in the vertical than my current 15.4'' WUXGA screen. So much scrolling (despite the resolution), really...

Just my 0.02$

... But then I try to change as the world moves on ....Well ,,,, what a fool I was ,,, this whole week spent @Ingolstadt; maybe I should asked the MAJOR GERMAN AUTOMAKER to give me NON HIGH DEF Displays for the PRESENTATIONS....

Pity this Old Timer !! But then I try to change as the world moves on ....
>then you can win 'em all

All I can say is lol :) I don´t quite get your argument since 15.4'' WUXGA is actually H(er)D... And I found it surprising that you had to do your presentation for that Major German Automaker on a laptop screen... I guess all the guys there just love staring at a 15.6 screen in a 30qm room :) And as for the rest of your post, I can understand your position and probably, it is great (for you) that you try to change as the world moves on, but not anything newer is necessarily better... If I was buying a laptop now, it would have been a T60p 15'' UXGA pure 4:3 ;)

Cheers,

Marin

er...tsk tisk ,,,,and I try(ed) so hard NOT to write a thesis here on things ,,,, lol  ....
a) PPTs = Presentations via MS Powerpoint were done to cater for the "screen layout" of the USER (major Decision Maker @Customer site) and since we knew most people at this (& lots of other) company(ies) ARE NOW on newer laptops - thus the 16:9 screen layout (which you and lots of pple hate!!). So in short, be smart, and cater for the CUSTOMER and its WIN WIN for all (er....its call BUSINESS!!)
b) Presentations were done @ Ingolstadt with LAPTOPS on to VERY LARGE screens via 16:9 projector(s) & on 100inch LG-HD displays - which they advised us to use (trust my German friends to have the Latest&Greatest Tech Toys - nothing but the best ey!)
b) Set up on these was the easiest and nothing to do really (not like other times one had to fiddle around to get the "right screen size to make PPT's look as good as you can - as often your laptop resolutions ddnt cater for often crapy numerious 'displays' that you run into !!)
c) FOR PEOPLE who often do these kinds of PRESENTATIONS/CONFERANCES, HD(16:9) screens are godsent, as you dont have to fiddle with 'layouts and stuff' and OUTPUT(s) are really WAT U SEE IS WAT U GET !! EASY PEEZZYY!!
d) Since I hardly ever really 'touch type' (Using DRAGON SPEAKS to do this..)and dont really worry about 'screen layouts for any of the MS Apps...however , its FANTASTIC to watch and play BlueRay movies on my W5's&700ds - as I have them with BD writer/players. You really dont see the 16:9 'value' until you play some of the movies on these screens (but then am not easily impressed !)
e) ONE cannot go past numerious websites where one seens the WEBPAGE LAYOUTS has already been changed TO CATER for these 16:9 'displays' ,,,,, thus making it easier to read those pages without "word wrap' etc . In short, its smart busines to cater for these screens<<PLS dont ask me for the URLS of ...>
f) (for me) its about TIME LENOVO, kinda nice to see a company, in past that has been SLoooowwwww in catering for some of the NEW TRENDS ,,, I think LENOVO ought to be congrulated on getting a nice start on 16:9 screen - yip they still not the LEADERS in that FIRST to the MARKET with most stuff but its nice to see they are DOING IT !! <congrats again>

Hope these above helps ,,,,, and YIP YOU CANT PLEASE em ALL !!
(sorry for typos - am lazy cant be botherd to check)
Cheers!
