So, when are the W510 shipping?

I looked last week on US Lenovo website and they had them listed in different configurations. However, today I checked and they just have the old models (on sale), will it be another month before they are readily available? Also, is Lenovo the best place to get a thinkpad, or are there better online retailers?

Ok I JUST checked the news section. Gotta love the false advertising. They probably only had like 100 units ready to ship or something.
I would really like to get a fully loaded W510 though, but I guess it will be a bit of a wait.

I am hating the W510 wide and squat screens! It is sad as this is what all laptop screens are going to be like soon. Todays wider screens were cheaper to make than the great screens we had a few years ago and now these new ultra wide but short in height screens are going to mean we are going to spend half our time scrolling but if they can make them cheaper, it does not matter what we want.

Me too. At least lenovo has an option for a higher res screen, that somewhat makes up for it.

The ship date for my W510 is 2/12/10. We'll see if it ships on time...

It looks like the T510 and W510 are back available to order on Lenovo's web site. Complete with warranty options and the new Slice battery.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can charge the slice battery while docked (I doubt it) or with the standard external power supply. If you look at this page it looks like the slice battery takes over the dock connector. The compatible external battery charger is apparently needed to charge the slice battery when not installed on the Thinkpad. I don't want to carry another battery charger when I travel, so I may end up just buying another standard 9-cell battery rather than the slice battery. From looking at psref, it looks like both the standard 9-cell and the slice battery are both rated for up to 7.8 hr.

I often travel(understatement of the year!).... and I fond out from a fellow "travller" on a flight across the "Atlantic" .....W500 battrery = SAME AS T60P!!

SO I tested and charged my 9Cell battery off W500 on his t60p ! perfect fit & safely charged ..... So am off to order a new '9cell' from t60p pricelist !!! (I knew the T60 keypad fits the squishy w500 keypad , didnt know battery fits also!)

PLUS I hate carrying the SLICE & ChargeR=BOAT ANCHOR !!! come on LENOVO - do better job at this!!

Hope this info HELPS someone save some money !

Side note - Currently playing around with a U1 (soon to be released model !!!
AMAZIN !!!
