Hey All,

Would I be crazy to not buy a W510(4319-2PU) for $1566 shipped? I get some good deals though my work.

Options:
I7-720QM
4(2x2GB)
320GB 7.2k
9Cell
Webcam
FHD non-touch
3-yr depot

I've been debating that or a T410 for $1470 with the following
I7-620M
4(2x2GB)
128GB SSD
9Cell
Webcam, BT, i6300, fingerprint
WXGA+
intel GFX
1-yr warranty

I don't look forward to carrying a 135w PSU w/ me vs the 65w PSU, but the horsepower/dollar ratio is [censored] near tempting. What do you think?

Not sure if you made your purchase yet.. I have the W510 with FHD, i7-820, 8GB, 128 GB SSD. I debated getting this over the HP i7 notebook, HP Envy 15, waiting to see what Dell or Apple do with the i7 chip. Finally saw a good price on the Thinkpad and pulled the trigger. I'm glad I did.

Anyway, the advantage of W510 over T410 is the i7 720 is Quad Core with Hyper-threading giving you 8 virtual cores. You can eventually upgrade to 16 GB of memory when the prices fall for 4GB sticks, screen size is FHD and beautiful.

I have the 90w PSU as well as the stock 135w. I keep the 135w at home and carry the 90w. I also used to use a big backpack with a ton of extra stuff with my older Dell D820. I bought a small, cheap, light carrying case for the W510 and only carry the 90w supply. Overall, I've lightened my load with this setup.

I also got the 27++ battery that I"m going to return. I didn't like the way it raised machine or the extra weight.
Oh, and I bought the SATA disk tray which I put a 320GB 7200 rpm drive.

Next purchase for me is the x100e netbook. I have a Dell mini9 that it will replace.

Are you happy enough with the battery life of the W510 to go without that 27++ battery?

I'm typically plugged in somewhere.. I use the 90w and press the ESC key on boot. I'm rarely on just battery unless I'm in a meeting and need my machine.

I guess I was disappointed in how the battery slice raised the back of the machine. It's interesting how it was implemented by plugging into the dock connector. I had it on ebay to sell it but no takers.

The W510 comes up with an error message on boot when connected to the 90w power supply stating that it may not have enough power to run in optimum mode. I really haven't seen any degradation but haven't tested it either. Maybe it doesn't recharge the battery as quickly?

There are some very small fonts that are a little difficult to read, even with my bi-focals...and older eyes. I'm coming from a 1920x1200 Dell Latitude D820 with 15.4" screen.. so it's technically a very slight increase to 1920x1080 on 15.6". The screen is far, far, far superior to anything I've seen on a laptop. Extremely bright, crisp and clear.

Do you have the multi-touch screen? The one and only review from a technet devel says there is a bit of "graininess" to the screen with multitouch. The FHD without multitouch is not currently available on the website, so I am hesitating.

I am still waiting for Ingram Micro to get the machines from Lenovo so it's still up in the air. My understanding is that the 90w adapter throttles the CPU clockspeed in both full quad-core frequency and 'turbo-mode'.

How is the noise & heat from the machine? Also can you put a 12.7mm hard drive in the drive adapter? I'm looking at 750 or 1TB 2.5" drive.

Can you use the pen on a multi-touch surface and expect it to work like a tablet PC?

What PC applications support multi-touch?

I have the multi-touch screen and I am unable to compare it to a 510 that does not have this feature. I can tell you that the screen is very nice with very wide viewing angles in comparison to other ThinkPads, excluding flex-view. The colors are bright and sharp and a noticeable improvement over the last few ThinkPads I have owned.

My only complaint is I am no fan of wide squat screens. But the higher resolution is well worth it for me. Some fonts are likely smaller than you wish them to be but with just a little gesture on the screen you can make it LARGER!

I have the FHD without multi-touch, and a friend just took delivery of his _with_ multi-touch.

He called me saying he was thrilled with the display. That was until we put ours side by side. There is indeed some "graininess" to the multi-touch and I'm not sure why. Until you do a side by side one would not notice it much, if at all just depending on how discerning you are. That said, the difference is very striking as the overall color balance, depth and contrast, along with the super clear and crisp fonts of the regular FHD make it undeniably the best non-IPS display Lenovo has offered.

Now that I've seen the difference, I'm glad I ordered mine on day one upon release when Lenovo was offering all four display choices. In this case it paid off to be an early adopter. The regular FHD is simply stellar.

How and where did he get the FHD from.. especially right now when they are not available from Lenovo? Please advise.

I have been waiting for the FHD option to be available for 4+ months now (since late January)! I find it hard to believe that a supply issue has caused this long of a wait and yet every other manufacturer is able to supply them with a week or less lead time? I realize Dell and HP are bigger than Lenovo but does that equate to 4+ months of waiting? I dont think so. It is ridiculous for a manufacturer to release a product and not have a Plan B (or Plan C) for where the components will be coming from? It is bad business practice and shows a lack of competency on Lenovo's part (I got this lecture from my boss when he asked why i hadn't ordered new laptops yet). I have called sales once a month since February and get the same response every time "some time next month". This not only keeps customers unfairly waiting, (i would have ordered elitebooks sooner had i known Lenovo never planned on getting their act together) but it makes sales look like fools because they say the same useless statement every time. I just spoke with a sales rep today and i get the impression they will never have this option again, he didnt even give the "one month" line, but rather said he had no info whatsoever on the status of these monitors. If you are in the same position as i was, do yourself a favor and buy Dell or HP. You may be waiting for an option that isn't coming back.

I just bought one with FHD via the TopSeller category. I have not yet received the machine as its delivered to my uncles place. Lets see how it turns out.

Is the W510's FHD display better in some respects than the W701's RGB LED screen? Does FHD have a meaning other than its native resolution of 1920x1080 (FHD=1080p?)?

I have the W510 4319-24G, upgraded with 160 GB SSD and 8 GB ram.
It get's hot (especially top left side), and I think that's the graphics card to blame (that's where it's at). In hind-sight, I would choose the T410s instead I think. I mean the machine (W510) is eeeeevil but I realise that the graphics card is maybe something I don't need. The main things I looked for when buying was:
1) Core i7
2) 8+ Gb of RAM
3) The Superior keyboard and shell of the Lenovo machines. (yes, I am that way. There is truly something special about these machines. The keyboards are absolutely amazing)

At the time of buying, the T410s's weren't in store (as far as I know the only i7 equipped T'series machines).

But,what do you need? Do you need the graphics card?
Why do you need the W510?
