Windows 7 not shutting down

Hi. I have a new W500 running Windows 7 Professional. Sometimes Windows doesn't shutdown - other times it does. The problem seems to occur after extended periods of use. I'm forced to manually shut it off via the on/off button. Sometimes upon Startup afterwards, I receive a message indicating an "unexpected shutdown" other times not. All updates are installed. I have no other operating systems installed.
Others have indicated it's the result of Bitlocker, but doesn't that come only with 7 Ultimate? Regardless, I have no encryption running. Hotfix, article #977307, didn't work.
I called Tech Support in Atlanta, which recommended their fix-all re-imaging the disk. I decided that was a little drastic given the possibility that there was little if any guarantee it would work.
Any help would be appreciated.
