W510 and 1333 So-Dimms
I am a bit confused as to the use of 1333 ram modules in the W510. Is it possible to use 4 x 2gb 1333 modules? I have seen conflicting data and discussions, some claiming the W510 can only use 4gb 1333 mhz modules.
Is is possible to max out all 4 slots using 2gb 1333 modules?
Thanks in advance.

Re: W510 and 1333 So-Dimms
Hello Pyroman...
short answer = YES !
I have a 4318CTO(multi-touch screen model) and have loded all 4 slots with 4 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (i had one 2GB loaded @ factory -which I kinda threw away)
What I loaded mine with are - Kingston HyperX 4GB , Timinings of 7-7-7-20
And W510 runs fast and njicely
Hope this helps

Re: W510 and 1333 So-Dimms
Well, you used the 4gb modules. I am trying to determine if I can use 2gb modules for a max of 8gb total of 1333 memory. One of the tech videos references 4gb 1333 only so-dimms. T
here has been debate on other forums about what combinations of size and/or number of ram modules that will allow the w510 to actually run at 1333. Some people interpret the specs to allow 1333 only with the 4gb modules.
Does that mean that to run 1333 that I must use 4gb modules, or can I use 2gb modules. 8GB of ram will be enough for me, but 4x2gb is cheaper than 2x4gb, and I was able to get 1333 7-7-7-20, rather than the 9-9-9-24 I would otherwise be stuck with going with 4gb modules without breaking the bank.
I do realize that the ram will downclock if it can't run at 1333, but if I'm not able to take advantage of 1333, then I'd rather not waste money.

Re: W510 and 1333 So-Dimms
Mr Pyro.....
ummmmm...... well not sure what else to say....but YOU CANT have your cake and EAT it ALSO ....and you get what you pay for!!!
best advise i can give = fill all the slots with SAME SPEED & SIZE (if u can get them all from same Mfg Batch etc etc ,,,)
I am not sure if I would beleive ALL of those Forums 'Theorists and White Paper Writters' - in general - proof = put something in and try it!!!
All I can tell you is whats working Great for US on 3 x W510CTOs under HEAVY COMMERCIAL BUSINESS USE !!!

Re: W510 and 1333 So-Dimms
@ausmike: Since you have those machines, can you confirm that those memory modules are actually running at 1333 MHz (as opposed to having downclocked due to some chipset limitations)? (I believe CPU-Z should be able to detect the actual operating speed of the chipset+memory). Thanks in advance,
Marin

Hi Marin; glad YOU Finally seeing the LIGHJT !! ... as I seen a number of your posts re 'you not liking the 16:9 screen layout! WELCOME to HD world!
As far as "confirm" operations speeds woth 1333mhtz= I couldnt be bothered !
All I know is that Kingston HyperX works nicely with the BIOS + DUAL-SSDs + iSeries Proc = RELIABLE + FASTER
DO i worry bout any'benchmarking' etc? nope never care ...... as if I wanted REAL SPEED i be lugging about my IBM-MAINFRAME <lol><lol>- am sure there people out there who have faster better laptops than mine/ours.........
