W500 Defective battery?

I have had my W500 for a year and a half now... I realized that the battery life is getting worse. I think it was bad to begin with. On average, I hear with the 9-cell battery I should be getting atleast 2-3 hours.
When I use it on battery, with everything turned down and battery stretch on.... I'm lucky to get an hour.
My battery will say something like I have 2:14 of battery life left one minute...and the next second it drops from 78% to 4% without warning and starts to shut off.
