The W510 is quite an upgrade in my opinion

I did not think a laptop keyboard could be better but the 510 is about as good as I have ever used.
Overall I am really enjoying the screen way more than I thought. Not a fan of wide screens but with the higher resolution, I find scrolling to be seldom needed. CPU performance is better that any laptop I have used. Not just a little but A LOT. AutoCad and Photoshop do not even break a sweat.
Only complaint so far is the track pad is near flush to the palm rest and it is sometimes hard to find the edge of the track pad when you need to scroll.
The 510 is also a BEAST! It is not a 17" but it is big and heavy yet not so large you can't carry it in the field.
The built in screen calibration device really works.
More later, still a lot to discover.

Nice! And congrats on your new ThinkPad!
When you have a chance, can you take a look and see which company manufactured the 256GB SSD that you have? And do you have an FHD screen? As in the super duper touchscreen that everyone is drooling over these days?
How responsive is it and do you find using it a lot?

Mine came with the 320gb 7200rpm drive and I replaced it with the Patriot 256 SSD drive and added 4gb for a total of 8gb.
Mine does have the multi touch screen and the built in screen calibration. They both work well. I am not used to navigating with the multi touch feature but after using my iPad for the last few weeks, I am seeing it does have some advantages but I am an old time ThinkPad user and was taught to never touch the screen

So as an "oldtime" ThinkPad user, you have probably come across some IPS Flexview screens in your life.
How does the FHD display on the W510 compare to an IPS Flexview? The wide viewing angle most likely, but what about color reproduction, accuracy, contrast, "sharpness", black levels, etc. You know, is it a vivid, or maybe even more so? Sorry for the 20 questions. hehe...Thank you!

The Flexview screens were the best.
The FHD display is not as good but IS better than the W500 screen, hands down. I find that the skin tones are acceptable in CS4. Not problem with sharpness, colors are vivid and there is almost too much contrast. I like it for editing, so far but need more time. View from the sides is quite good, improved to say the least
Even my large M9 RAW files do not slow this thing down. This could truly be a desktop replacement
