W701 and Drive Bay Adapter III

#1 Post by wkirksnyder » Thu May 20, 2010 12:57 pm

How well should the Drive Bay Adapter III fit in a W701? It seems about 2 or 3 mm smaller than the DVD drive and leaves that much gap when it is in place. It seems to work fine, but it seems weird to have that opening in the case.

I am not aware of any ThinkPad that does not have the gap with an ultrabay HDD inserted. Mine definitely does have it :)

The UltraBay HD Adpater III is a Serial Ultrabay Slim compatible device. It fits the 9.5mm Serial Ultrabay Slim on the thinner machines, as well as the 12.7mm Serial Ultrabay Enhanced bay, but the Enhanced bay has a gap. As far as I know, Lenovo does not and never has offered a full-height 12.7mm Ultrabay Enhanced adapter.

You can find full-height gapless Serial Ultrabay Enhanced HD adapters on eBay, no problem. They're not OEM but they work just fine, They'll also swallow 12.5mm 2.5" drives, like the 1TB Scorpios.
