Hallo community,

i have got a new thinkpad w510 with a docking station :thumbs-UP: .

but there are two questions:

1) i am using also an external monitor, it works, but if i close the laptop (so i can not see the thinkpad monitor screen) the thinkpad goes into sleep mode. how can i change it (see thinkpad screen on external monitor AND see no screen on thinkpad due to closed notebook).

2) can i use the docking station and notebook without a battery (maybe it is better for battery life). Should i do this, or not?

tnx

greetings

If your computer supports these options, you can use the Advanced tab to make your computer go into standby or power off mode by pressing the power button, closing the lid, or pressing the sleep button.

To use the Power Management power buttons

1. On the Power Options Properties page, click the Advanced tab.
2. In the When I close the lid of my portable computer list, select either Standby or Power Off or None .

As far as the battery, yes you can run without one, but unless you are plugged into a UPS, when you lose utility power the laptop will crash.

What I do is when its asleep like when I pull it out of my bag I just dock it and press the power button and start working with the external monitor keyboard and mouse. When I'm done I just put it back to sleep and undock it and stuff it back in to my bag.
