intel 620m in W510?

Hi all,

I am just wondering if the dual core 620m would fit in the W510. I think for 99% of all the application this could be the faster processor. Basic clock @2.66 and overclocks to 3.33GHz.

I just did some test with my vmware.
1) loading of about 10000 objects into oracle db from java task
2) starting jboss server with enterprise application deployed (has to load these 10.000 objects into memory)

The two above test run much faster when the vmware is assigned only 1 core.

Monitoring the frequency of the CPU shows that by using only one core in the vmware, the processor clocks up to 3.0 GHz. With two cores it is limited to 2.6Ghz.

To give you some numbers

Vmware with 2 cores:
Task 1) -> average of 160s
Task 2) -> average of 65s

Vmware with 1 core:
Task1) -> average of 135s
Task2) -> average of 47s

That is quite a difference.
So that 620m processor could be even faster.

Regards,

Wolfgang

I second this suggestion, Thinkpad should add in option for Dual Core CPU in W510 series...

~This would significantly extend battery life
~This would lessen the heat generated, less stress on cooling system

the more or less is quite significant ;-)

4 memory slots and I am not quite sure about the FHD display.

When I check the bios, it seems that it is the same for W510 and T510, at least from the version, just need to compare the file itself.
