Hi everyone!
How do i clean the fan on my Thinkpad W500? I cant find anything on Lenovos website, or on the forum.
When lookingon the bottom, there is no way to open to the fan - i need to remove the bottom
Is there a easy way, or do i loose the warranty if i remove the bottom? (i am from Denmark if it helps)

Go through the W500 maintenance manual. I've never had one apart, but I can't imagine it's any more difficult than removing the keyboard to get at the fan with compressed air. I have had T500's apart, and they are virtually identical.

The W500 is new and so your W500 is new. Unless you have been using it in the desert or you live in a dusty house or have a lot of pets or pollution in your area, it probably doesnt need cleaning. The possibility is remote. You can also damage the bearings if you spray compressed air on it. Hold it down instead of using the air to spin it. This reminds me of people who brush their teeth too hard or excessively. There is such thing as overkill.

I would recommend cleaning your fan and heatsink every 6 to 12 months depending in how dusty environment are you using it.

Don't allow it to spin while blowing it out.
