After Lenovo fixed my W510 after it got bricked by a BIOS update (which took them 4 weeks), I get the folowing error in the ThinkVantage Toolbox:
Driver problem on Intel(R) Active Management Technology - SOL (COM4)
Reinstall Driver
If i click the Reinstall Driver button i get:
The Device cannot start (Code 10)
I tried to update the driver, it says:
Latest version allready installed...
Tried to deinstall and install the latest from the lenovo site...
Same deal...
Whats up with that...
Do i have a bum chip on this motherboard???

Shutdown->restart
I had a similar thing. I got a small dialog that said reboot needed, which went by quickly. Turned out the driver was installed but old one can't be removed bec it's running. I rebooted, which freed the old driver, allowing new to be loaded, and I was off to the races.
I used the thinkvantage tool to update EVERYTHING (except the bios, which you learned the hard way<ar, ar>). I think I did it in two parts, with reboots in the middle. My W510 is now perfect.

Really curious what ya did exactly...
Upgraded to the latest BIOS: 1.24-1.13 now...
got the latest 6.0.0.1179 Management Engine Interface and Serial Over LAN driver (SOL) Driver...
tried all sorts of combinations of just installing > reboot...
unistalling reboot > installing > reboot...
uninstalling > installing > reboot
Etc etc...
Also upgraded the firmware: 6.0.41.1216
unistalling reboot installing reboot...
Fiinaly the old school way as in Have Disk
It says:
Windows found a driver for this device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
This Device cannot start. (Code 10)
I called Lenovo they send me a box tomorow to be shipped to the Memphis Repair Center...
Hardware bug?
If ya have suggestions, if i missed something, let me know. Cause i'm not realy exited having the machine in repair for another month...

Maybe something diff about your machine. My bios is at 1.19. As I recall they pulled 1.20. Guess I'll have to go looking for BIOS and .ISOs for the W510.
I looked at Start->Programs->Intel and have some sort of management & security (remote access) app that is disabled, SATI Storage that is happy, and Wi-Max.
I see nothing about SOL - don't even know what it is or whether my machine has it, but it sounds interesting! Sorry to be no help, M!

But ya do have "Intel(R) Active Management Technology" enabled in the BIOS?
When i disable that the error goes away...
Had the same issue btw with bIOS 1.19...
So if ya enable this in the BIOS you dont get the Error?
Apreciate the feedback

Ah - found it and see that the think vantage tool just gives you a lick and a promise. Looks like it doesn't do any drivers. I'll have to do it by hand. And I see that they dropped .24 BIOS - tnx for the tip!
