Just got the W510 FHD: 4319 2PU

I7-720QM
4(2x2GB)
320GB 7.2k
9Cell
Webcam
FHD non-touch
3-yr depot

ISSUES:
- It did not come with any CDs / DVDs. Nothing. Should I be calling Lenovo for them? Whats the deal here?
Anyone else buy the same / similar W510 recently and receive / not receive the CDs / DVDs?

QUESTIONS:
- I am also gonna image the original Lenovo EE "Enhanced Experience" partition. Suggestions in removing / cleaning out some stuff.. like the Office 2007 Trial? ..

- Typical thing that I would usually do is a BURN IN TEST to check all is well.

- Is that something I need to do here?

- I am thinking of running a Memtest (Should I do it with Memtest86 or Memtest+ or Memtest86+..?)
And / OR
New thinkpads also have a Utility Disk that can be booted from for a complete hardware check?

Thoughts?

Just purchased and received a new W510 myself so I'm trying to find out some answers as well.

1) There should have been an option to select free XP recovery disks on the order screen. Not quite sure of the point of that but I took them anyway even though I'm running Win 7 64bit. In one of the service manuals it lists the part number for the recovery disks for different versions of windows.

You can also create your own recovery disks (1CD Boot, 2 DVD's data) by running Rescue & Recovery and choosing the recovery disks option.

2) I want to re-install the OS as a clean copy without the usual trial rubbish but not sure how to do that so if someone has any pointers they would be welcome.....! I'm sure it's been discussed a few times on the forum but it's a matter of finding it again.

3) Even before I switched mine on I booted off a CD into Acronis recovery and backed up the 3 partitions so I'd have a clean copy no matter what. There was a sector by sector copy option but I didn't have enough free space on the external drive for that.

4) Bios, I enabled all the VT options (all two of them) as I'm planning to run VMWare Workstation 7.1

Didn't do much else really as I want to get a clean install before I do anything else.

Cheers,

George

Most the computers I bought over the years, come with less and less disk. Last two computers did not come with OS or Recovery disk. I want to say it's normal.

When I tried Mac a year or two back it only came with two disk.
