Hi,

After upgrading the RAM on my new W510, I get the following bluescreen with the message BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER within a few minutes after logging in to windows:

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Any ideas for possible solutions? Workarounds?

Thanks

Turns out the problem was with the memory stick I used for the upgrade:

OCZ 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 OCZ3M13334G (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/l ... ition.html)

I don't know if it is a general compatibility problem or the particular memory stick I had was faulty, although it passed 1 pass of all memtest86+ tests, Windows 7 would still bluescreen as described above in my previous post.

Another 1333MHz memory module that I tried also had serious Windows 7 compatibility issues causing BSoD, even though it also passed memtest86+ tests:

Wintec W1066SB2GQ S602-W 2GB SODIMM DDR3 1066MHz (http://www.centralcomputers.com/commerc ... 3864009093)

Eventually, I was able to get my memory upgrade working using these two memory modules:

Patriot Signature Line PSD32G10662S DDR3 1066MHz 2GB Module (http://www.patriotmem.com/products/deta ... 732&type=5)

and

Corsair Value Select CM3X4GSD1066 DDR3 1066MHz 4GB Module (http://www.corsair.com/products/valuese ... fault.aspx)

Both of these modules have the exact same timings as the 2GB Elpida module that my W510 came with (7-7-7-20, tRC=27) and it seems like that might have been the critical part for compatibility... even though the two 1333MHz sticks above that I had problems with, caused blue screens of death even when installed on their own (without the Elpida module).

Hope this might help other thinkpad owners who are looking to upgrade their memory.

Cheers,
-Nikolay
