I have a W510 with the 820 in it and I've been happy with the temp. A little background, I use it for developing parallel applications (numerical linear algebra) so I stress the CPU quite often. I had a W500 and it would constantly overheat and shutdown once it got above 95. With the W510 I can let it run for days (and I have!) running an MPI application on all 4 cores and it's just fine. Granted, it does get warm and I wouldn't recommend setting it on a bare lap for a long time, but it's a lot better than the W500. Sorry I don't have any hard numbers for you.

What are you doing when it get hot? I run my W510 all day long and it is warm but seldom hot! The fan hardly goes above it's lowest speed and then only for a minute or two. If you are gaming or using very CPU intensive software, it will get hot!

I use my machine for browsing and gaming (mostly EVE Online) and have noticed a tendency to run warm. I'm using Real Temp GT to monitor the CPU and I am seeing temps as high as 72 deg C for short periods but it comes right back down to 55-60 deg C. I am wondering if I should have purchased a dedicated gaming rig like an Alienware M15 or M17 instead.
