Hi,

I am thinking about upgrading from my T60p flexview to a W510.

I would like to know which screen is comparable to the quality I get with my flexview.

Thanks,

Yesterday I completed the order for a W510 with the FHD 1920 x 1080 display. The HD+ is 1600 x 900. The FHD is also brighter (according to the specs)

The 1920x1080 is a good screen though not IPS. Sometime in first half of next year there will be a refresh based on Intel Sandy bridge. There may or may not be better screens. I'm hoping for return of IPS because:
- there are more IPS screens these days - HP mobile workstations, iPad, Dell makes $250 U2211H 1920x1080 22" IPS monitor.
- LCDs have transitioned to 1920x1080 which is same aspect-ratio as TVs, it might be cheaper to make IPS in this size (read somewhere it costs about $30 per panel to make IPS over TN)

Though currently the only IPS thinkpad is X20x Tablet and Lenovo doesn't make any non-TN monitors.

If you can wait a few more months then buy successor to W510 or if it doesn't come with better screen, you can get W510 a bit cheaper by then.

There's the HP 8540w and they cost like the Thinkpads of yore. That's it for the 15" segment. I wouldn't count on seeing them in Thinkpads in the near future, my opinion of course.

Everyone.. thank you for the replies...

I have had my mouse over the "place order" button several times over the past few days.... Lenovo is running some tempting incentives this weekend: W510, I7 720QM, 4G RAM, 160SSD and the FHD display for $1671 USD.... just not sure about the screen... I really like my T60p IPS :?:

The new LED FHD panel would probably look a lot better than the aged CCFL-backlit IPS panel in terms of color reproduction. Viewing angles are supposedly better on the HD+ but both are arguably better than the panels offered on any other ThinkPad (except the 17" RGBLED ones).

Well... I pressed the "place order" button on 11/28 and the package is in Anchorage at the moment... I will post my feeling about the screen difference when I receive the goods.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I ordered my W510 on 11/24 and still don't even have a delivery date. The Lenovo sales line is down...
