I got my W510

#1 Post by tpribors » Sat Dec 11, 2010 12:19 am

W510, FHD display, 500GB HDD.

I've experimented with a few things. I always partition my HDD into a boot and data, and W7 disk management makes that easy.

I'm going to get a Seagate hybrid drive to replace the one that came with it.

Boy, Lenovo and Microsoft sure downloaded a lot of updates. You'd think that a new machine would have at least included all of the Thinkpad related updates.

I created the restore media. 1xCD + 3xDVD.

I have yet to experiment with the color calibration, and I'll have to go get a new 1394 cable to connect the scanner.

It's late and I've got to get up early to go to the Wreaths Across America at Ft. Logan National Cemetery so won't get much time to play with it until Sunday.

Do NOT get the hybrid drive from Seagate...check out the forum: http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Momentus-X ... p/Momentus

Firmware SD24 has only been release for a couple of days. At this point, it is uncertain if it has fixed all the issues that Momentus XT owners have been facing for almost 5 months. If I were you, I would wait for another month for users' feedbacks and then decide.

FYI, I bought the drive (with firmware version SD23) back in September. And oh man, do I regret buying it or what...

Wait, is my advice.
