W701 Wireless Drops Out Over and Over

#1 Post by A142536 » Sat Dec 25, 2010 8:52 pm

So, I had a W700ds - loved it. Loved it so much I got a W701ds.

Sometimes, my wireless works without any issues. I have a n class wireless access point, and have had zero issues with my W700, zero issues with 2 cell phones, a bluray player, game console, any anyone who brings in a wireless device. I am 99% sure the wireless access point is not the issue.

So, when I am at home, the only place I use wireless, I was very surprised that sometimes the W701ds does not work. The symptoms are as follows:
-Turn on W701ds.
-Log in, wireless auto-connects to wireless access point shows full signal.
-Go to Google, look up a website, life is good.
-Within about 3 minutes of web browsing, suddenly a triangle with an "!" appears in taskbar, no internet, no connectivity.
-If I disconnect, and then reconnect, it works for another 3 minutes then stops as above.
-If I use the hard switch to turn off all wireless radios, then turn it back on, it works for another 3 minutes then stops as above.
-Sometimes, after a restart, or if I move the computer, the wireless works like a charm for hours. This is not necessarily a repeatable problem.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

There are (3) places to disable power saving on the WiFi card....Power Manager, Access Connections, and in Windows Device Manager (Advanced properties for the WiFi adapter). Try disabling power savings and checking Max Performance in all (3) spots.

Thanks for the reply! It was helpful.

Here is an update.

Device Manager:
Under Properties for "11b/g/n/ Wireless LAN Mini-PCIExpress Adapter II" under "Power Management" Tab:
-Unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
Result:
-No change - still have same problem

Power Manager:
-PCIExpress power manager set to "Off"
-Also, made everything "Max Performance"
Result:
-No change - still have same problem

Realized I hadn't installed "Access Connections". Installed it.
-Deleted the already existing "Windows Wireless" profile.
-Created new profile.
Result:
-Works

Not sure why I couldn't get it working with only the wireless NIC drivers from Lenovo installed...

It seems that after I installed Access Connections everything is back up and running. It has been up for afew hours now, if I have any problems in the near future I will post again.

Thanks for the help!!!
