W510 low processor Windows Experience Index

Hi folks,
As per the title I just ran the WEI update on my new W510 and the Processor score from others I have found on the net and in comparison to my last W500 and even T61P seems very low; it is only showing 4.2. The CPU is the i7 Q720 @ 1.6GHz. According to System Update I have the latest drivers etc and I'm running form the monster power supply with power management set to maximum performance.

Any thoughts as to why the Processor score is so low?

Many thanks

Ant

As an update I found the Intel Turbo Boost Monitor tool and no matter what I do or run to stress test the machine I never see the speed go above 1.73GHz. Even trying CPU stress tools running multiple threads or single threads etc.

Thanks

there are CPU power management settings in the BIOS.   check there to see if anything is restricted.

Thanks for reply, I did go through the BIOS and nothing seems restricted and CPU goodies are enabled.

Thanks

download CPU-Z and see if it reports a change in clock speed when running benchmarks.   and, fwiw, WEI isn't the best benchmark to use to determine stress on a CPU or its true performance.   try something else.

After wasting hours trying to work this out I reinstalled W7 and everything is now working as expected!
