Hi All,

My Setup is:

Lenovo W701
NVIDIA FX 3800M, Driver Version: 261.27
64Bit Windows 7 Pro

my plan is to have two NEC PA271W-BK-SV’s Resolution 2560 x 1440.

According to NVIDIA the FX3800M supports up to 2560 x 1600 with 30bits of color
My W701 has one Display Port and one Dual-link DVI; my plan is to have two PA271W-BK-SV’s.

the question is can I output over both at once at that res?

NVIDIA Site: FX 3800M

from what I have read it should work, see NVIDIA pdf: page 14

NVIDIA Quadro Professionl

starting on page: 5, I can add Resolution in the NVIDIA control panel, I do have this capability in the FX 3800M

What do you think?

Thank You,

if anything you'll need an active dual-link DVI-D to displayport adapter.   however, i've never used one backwards and am not 100% sure it will work.   the active adapter would plug into the display rather than the dock.   you'll also need a USB extension cable to go from the active adapter back to your W701 dock.

in native form the highest res you can get from a passive DVI to DP link is 1920x1200.   an active adapter can handle up to 2560x1600.

on a side note, you only need one PA271W-BK-SV and one PA271W-BK.   you can use the colorimeter from the SV on either or both displays.   there's no point in buying two.   besides, NEC graphics displays can be calibrated to each other quite easily.

Hi erik,

My W701 has one Display-port and one Dual-link DVI-D port, as well as VGA I will not be using VGA.
I have the Mini Dock 2.0 which comes with one Display-port and one Dual-link DVI-D port.
Yes I have the USB A type & B type cables I am waiting for NEC to send me the Dual-link DVI-D’s

I have two NEC PA241W-BK-SV, but Pixels per inch (PPI) or Pixel Density of the 24” is just 94. I am exchanging the NEC PA241W-BK-SV for the
NEC PA271W-BK-SV, for the higher PPI of 109, it will be closer to my Lenovo W701’s PPI which is 133 PPI

That’s what I am thinking...

scratch what i said above.   i just read the PA271W-BK specs again and saw that it has both displayport and DVI-D input.   given that, you'll be able to run each display using a native connection without needing an adapter.

for some reason i thought that display was displayport only.   it's been a while since i looked at the specs.

Hi Erik,

I am using ThinkPad mini Dock 2.0 and According to the specifications I can us any two video ports simultaneously. One Dual-link DVI-D digital monitor supporting 2560 x 1600 resolution, and one DisplayPort monitor supporting 2560 x 1600 resolution.

So I should be good to go…
