Hello,
I've ready recently that the W701 is going to be killed off :(
Anyhow, that being the case, I was holding out on ordering a W701ds in anticipation of Sandy Bridge, but since the series is dead I suppose there isn't much point in that... Anyhow, I was wondering if, it would be at all possible to upgrade the W701 to a Sandy Bridge CPU, or are the chipset/sockets incompatible? I really hope they aren't, but my gut tells me they are.

I don't know much about SB sockets, but if past history is any indication, the answer would be no.

lol...How is this Intel's fault?

To the OP: I don't think you can. The chipset is different. From a "RAM point of view", it would be possible. You can definitely any W701/W701ds to a quad-Core i7-940XM Extreme Edition, which should be coming down in price fairly quickly. ;-)
