Hi,
finally, Intel has released SSD 320 600GB aka X-25M G3 which I was waiting for. It's not that great as I hoped, still I'm going for it. What is the best way to install clean Win7 x64 to a new drive and keep the rescue functionality? I have also noticed that W510 has two extra partitions, I was used to 1 from T60, what is the reason for two?
Any info gladly appreciated,
Aleq

There is no best way or worst way. There is only one way to do it...reinstall using the recovery CD's or DVDs.

Is that really the only way? How about transferring those partitions using Acronis True Image (for instance), fresh installation of Win7 and then recovery of MBR? Would that work?

I've never tried it, but I think the main issue will be the MBR restoration for Rescue and Recovery use. Go for it and tell us if it works ...
Why would you want to do this? Lost your recovery CD's?

Or maybe even more complicated but more appealing scenario - right now, I have primary HDD and ultrabay 1tb HDD. I'm going to switch the primary with new SSD. I want to keep the 1TB hdd but it would be great to have the R'nR on it, not on SSD. Now, that's challenge
Maybe (if it is not easily manageable) I should only backup clean install of the SSD to the ultrabay drive and have there bootable restore (if that's possible). I have Acronis True Image Home 2011..
P.S.: Why not with CD's? I haven't even created them yet, I'm not using CDs/DVDs any more. But still an option and thanks for info about that

Have you thought of using the software tool that Intel offers for free that does this job for you?
