Back to a new W520

#1 Post by Greg Gebhardt » Sun May 08, 2011 4:41 pm

The non FHD screen on the T420s was more than I could stand so I ordered another W520 to replace it.

This particular model comes with the 256GB SSD from the factory.

Who makes this drive?

Would my IBM X25-M 160GB SSD beat it in speed or should I just leave the factory drive in and be happy?

do you have that with a FDE? If so, this should be 1.8" in a 2.5" adaptor SSD from Sharp.

I am thinking it is the new Intel SSD 510.

Not the fastest drive on the market but it should be solid and dependable.

Anyone know for sure what Lenovo is using?

As far as I know Lenovo has not announced any SATA 3 drives.

I would say most likely the drive is a Samsung FDE FRU 45N7959 or Toshiba FDE FRU 45N7991 or 45N8207. These drives are all the 1.8" variety which will have the 1.8" to 2.5" storage converter.

If configurated at the factory your new W520 most likely is a CTO as these drives are not available on the Lenovo website for configuration.

You may be able to notice that your Intel drive is the slightest bit faster. Then again you may not.

Let us know what drive it is when it arrives.
