i remember seeing an option to purchase Micro SSD for Thinkpad W520.

It is not there anymore. I chatted with the sales rep on lenovo.com and they said that it was probably because of shortage.
The next time I chatted with them they said it was a web error and that wasnt an option.

Which is true? has anyone purchased W520 with micro ssd?
Will it be coming in the future or is it worthwhile to wait for it?

A quick check of the current configurator lists 128Gb and 160Gb SSD's. Since the W520 HMM lists what look like only 2.5" SSD's most likely that is what you will get. The 2.5" SSD's have the standard SATA connector.

This will not stop you from using the uSATA drives with the 1.8" to 2.5" storage converter. I have a W520 setup with one.

Unless you are talking about mSATA which is a totally different storage device.

I think the OP is referring to the 80GB mSATA mini-PCI/E SSD that fits in the WWAN slot.

It is now listed in the hardware maintenance manual and reportedly was offered at some points in time by Lenovo... at about twice the price you'd pay elsewhere (e.g., Provantage [who can't get the photo right] and Newegg). Stock does seem to come and go in waves throughout the country; both of those retailers are current out-of-stock. Provantage would let you backorder it; Newegg will notify you via email when they get some.

Lenovo does *not* seem to doing anything more than sticking it in and letting it be the C: drive. No special hybrid drive software (no sign of their "RapidDrive"). So you might as well save a couple Benjamins and buy it yourself. Not much trickier to install than RAM.
