FYI...sicne lots of pple have PMed me and asked for details of this.............
Offerings:
Total memory = 8 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
UPGRADE Price = $450 ( extra from single 4GB)
.............AFAIK
First Thinkpad laptop = X1
We/I have had these (8GB's) to make up 32GB in two machines > T420 + W520 Series and works nice!!!

Okay, so you're saying that if we buy four X1s with the upgraded RAM plus a W520 (or whatever), we could get a 32GB W520 for only $1800 more than the price of the four X1s and the W520. I guess that could work for some situations.
The USA W520 page is still listing just 4GB parts, as is Lenovo's upgrades/accessories page.
But it does seem interesting that they can offer that as a $450 upgrade. Currently the best source I'm seeing for 8GB DIMMs is from OWC, selling a 16GB kit (8GBx2) aimed at Mac users for $1499, or about $250 more per module than Lenovo's inferred pricing.
Can you post a FRU# for the 8GB part?

Reminds me of the time(1994) when I purchased a gargantuan 16M (yes, MEG) memory stick for the 'bargain' price of $618. This, plus the 4M stock stick, got me FLYING with a total of 20Meg...

And it looks like it is Elpida manufactured, the reference number is 03X6401, looks the same one which Lenovo build in X1 models, see the second picture ("Miniaturansichten angehängter Grafiken") here
