W520 CTO - no modem

#1 Post by rtpnc6 » Tue May 31, 2011 3:00 pm

I just got the printout of a W520 (CTO) that I ordered on Monday. There is now an SBB (0A68540) that states that there is no modem to be installed in the configuration! There was no option to either specify or delete the modem from the system. Has anyone order a W520 CTO system recently w/o a modem installed? :( I know that I can get an external USB modem from ZOOM which will fill the .1% time that my lan access goes down, but it's really annoying to find this out with no recourse. The salesperson that I spoke to this PM confirmed that the CTO configurations had no V.56 modem that could be configured.

I can confirm. There is no modem in the CTO.

Thanks for the response. This will be the first TP that I've had with no dialup capability. Looks like I'm going to be buying a ZOOM USB modem for insurance. I wonder why this is deleted w/o any possibility of specifying it. Perhaps there is a parts shortage?

I don't know: my W520, which is a CTO model, has a modem in it.
It was shipped on April 28.

I don't have a modem either... and for the first time in about 15 years, I don't care: I no longer have a landline either. I can find WiFi or tether to my phone a lot more easily than I could find a phone jack most places.

I ordered the Lenovo USB Modem 43R1814 for $39.96 + tax. Placed order on 6/8, arrived on 6/10 from Hong Kong (2 days). Came with a driver disk. Installation was a breeze. I still would have preferred the internal card, but I suppose that not too many people want a dialup modem in the base spec any more.

I don't believe mine has a modem, but don't really care as I would never do dial up again anyhow.

How 90's.

I still have land lines. There have been times when the broadband has failed (telco equipment) and the only way to send/receive is to use dialup. Admittedly, it hasn't been necessary for a few years now. Cheap insurance.
