Bluray burner for W520

#1 Post by rtpnc6 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 1:46 pm

Any idea if or when an internal bluray burner might be available for the W520?. I've seen some offered on e-bay with Lenovo branding, but the current accessories do not list anything on the official site.

I use the BR.Bruner from my older T & W51x series , works except its not with the 'latest speeds' ,,,,, that HP or Dell laptops seems to have ; as its SATAII , and not SataIII like the current W510 internals have. FRU # 42T2605 is what I have - which I got lots lots cheaper via lenovo outlet store!

Cheers

Why can't you use the LGE-DMCt21L(B) BD-ROM/DVD Rewriter, like I have in my W510?
Mine is branded HP.
If I am missing something about read speed (I haven't used it to write anything yet), please let me know.
I use Cyberlink PowerDVD 11.

I have installed a Panasonic UJ-240 in my W520, it works like a charm.

Here are the instructions I followed: http://www.primitivebuteffective.com/20 ... nd_23.html

I have no idea if Lenovo is planning on making a Blu-Ray burner an option for the W520...

There is another model - from memory its Samsung something like it , avalible from NewEgg
that kinda 'fits' into the W510x W520 slot with any messing around. I have seen pple with it , and have been told its from Newegg , but thats all I know....
thinks its similiar to this ...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827106349

I build in a Sony Optiarc BD-5750H Blu Ray burner in my ThinkPad W520. It works fine. You will find an instruction to change the internal optical drive at http://www.primitivebuteffective.com/20 ... nd_23.html.
After changing the drive, change the power management profile to switch on the optical drive. After Rebooting Windows 7 the Blu Ray burner works fine.

Me, too... mine's a bit of a hack job because I trimmed the original faceplate with a utility knife instead of stealing my W520 DVD's faceplate. I did "borrow" the back and side guide pieces. The Lenovo DVD drive still works okay without them... I keep using it when I don't need Blu-Ray because I've had drives fail often enough that I want to see if I can use this one up under warranty.

Would be nice to be able to get extras of those plastic bits. Maybe I'll post a WTB for a dead optical on the appropriate forum.
