Those with W520's and are running UEFI/GPT on their SSD....

#1 Post by JRHAWK9 » Fri Jul 01, 2011 11:57 am

How do you like it? How's the performance? Having any issues outside of bitlocker and the fingerprint scanner (which there is a workaround for)?

I am trying to decide between running UEFI/GPT or running legacy. I would solely be doing so for a performance benefit. If there's no performanve increase I will probably stick with legacy.

thanks!

Running in Legacy mode only due to incompatibility with Linux (Ubuntu 11.04), can't say much for MS Windows.

The only performance benefit is that you get faster from power on to the point where the boot loader starts. In other words, less time at the boot screen.

The UEFI boot firmware has some brain damage when your setup deviates from the most basic GPT partitioning, any of the advanced tricks with mixed GPT/MBR will not boot. Also, the UEFI firmware has some serious bugs but at least the most popular versions of Windows 7 don't trigger them.
