Displayport output while simultaneously doing other things

Hello,
That was a pretty bad subject. Anyway, is it possible to output a movie via the displayport (thru hdmi converter cable to a TV), say on one desktop, and then continue using the w520's screen to do other things on the computer (say, on another desktop). If so, how does one set this up?

I have the nvidia 2gb card, i7-2720QM.

Thanks!

Presuming you don't run into copy protection issues with your selection of source material, cables and TV, it should be possible. In fact, I think I've done this when testing an inexpensive DVI-to-HDMI cable I bought.

1. Connect to the TV; it will show up like a second monitor.
2. Set it to "extend the desktop." (Windows-P if something doesn't pop up)
3. Depending on what video player you use, you might be able to go fullscreen only on your primary monitor; if necessary, set the primary monitor to be the TV (moves taskbar, etc.) (This could be a problem depending on how you're going to use this. If so, try other players.)
4. Drag your "other things" windows onto the computer's screen and your video to the TV's screen and enjoy.
