W701 clone drive issues

#1 Post by CONDUCT » Mon Oct 03, 2011 1:15 pm

OK I am a little lost here. I currently have W701 here and want to swap out the current HD with SSD HD but the software I am using Symantec Ghost is not working for some odd reason. It does not matter is a create image and apply to SSD drive or a clone drive to drive I still have the blinking cursor in top left. I even ran Windows 7 recovery disk and tried to rebuild the MBR but the MBR does not find the Boot partition. I can see the all the OS info on the SSD but even if I run a /ScanOs it says no OS found. I also have the same problem on another Lenovo. So is there some other software out there that I works?

Thanks

Hi,

I have cloned a few Lenovo's my self but it's been a while. I think there is a hidden partition that needs to be set to visible in the BIOS in order for the cloning software to see the whole disk. I usually use Acronis True Image 2010 which can also shrink/enlarge volumes as you see fit.

If all fails try installing IBM Rescue and Recovery and make a complete backup of your laptop then replace the disk and boot up on the recover CD and restore the image to the new disk.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!

Try installing the SSD where the old drive was and then attempt the clone.

Found out 8mb unpartitioned disk space is needed in front of the boot partition when applying the image to a new drive.

Would you please explain it in more details?
I had the same problem and finally gave up by reinstalling the OS.

Thanks for the pic.
I hope I get it in the right way, does it mean that I'll need the partition the destination hard drive before disk cloning?
