Problems with 8GB upgrade for W500, Corsair RAM

#1 Post by gpvillamil » Sat Oct 15, 2011 9:33 pm

I'm looking to upgrade a W500 to 8GB RAM.

I found and ordered this from Corsair Corsair Memory — 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SODIMM Memory Kit (CM3X8GSDKIT1066)

However, once installed, I got the following beep code on startup: 1 - 3 - 3 - 1

The hardware manual, not so helpfully, says that error corresponds to DIMM.

Anything else I should try? Is likely the DIMMs are defective, or is there something else I need to do?

Don't get Corsair ram modules, they are notorious for incompatibility with Thinkpads.
Current ThinkPad: T430u, T430s, X1 Carbon, X1, X230t, X220t, X230, X220, X201t, W520, W701ds, T500, T420 and many more

I've had excellent luck doing 8GB upgrades on W500s and T410s using whatever cheap 4GB modules I can find at Frys or Newegg. Patriot, Adata, G.Skill, Mushkin, Samsung.
