ThinkPad Z60m as a portable desktop

#1 Post by sestulak » Thu Apr 26, 2018 2:12 pm

So I was thinking about buying an old Z60m withouth working screen, my question is - is it possible to remove the screen and use only the keyboard part with motherboard and connect it to an external screen via VGA if not is there any model that can do that?

It won't be very fast, mind you, with its Pentium M and very dated ATI graphics at best.

Depends on what you're doing. If browsing, Firefox 32 bit is very slow nowadays. You can play some retro games though if you have ATI GPU.

My 2 cents worth,

Found that Point Linux works really well on old Thinkpads with M processors. (T42s etc)

You'll be able to do basic tasks without issue running Lubuntu or Debian but web browsing may be a bit slow.
