Thinkpad a22e fastest OS?

#1 Post by trylgsk » Thu Nov 30, 2023 4:32 am

Hello, i have been considering to install windows 3.1/95 on my old a22e since even windows 98 is getting a little slower, ive considered to install windows xp on it once, but ive figured that the specs would be very slow for XP

128 MB ram
Ati Mobility Rage-M 4mb GPU
20 gb HDD
Intel Celeron 800 mhz cpu

Would Windows 3.1 or 95 be possible on the a22e? How would i be able to make win98 faster? Would XP have the same performance as 98? Thanks

W98SE or W2K come to mind.
An SSD would be overkill, but try Samsung HM160HC 160GB, 5400rpm, THE best IDE/PATA drive.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Win 98 needs to be reinstalled once in a while But I think that your specs are great for that OS. Maybe you can multiboot with those OSs. For XP 128mb of RAM is less than recommended, if I were You I would at least double that RAM.
As RBS said, maybe you need to replace your HDD because it may be dying and slowing down your system.
