Hey there all
Whilst I love cd ROM drives, the process of burning those CDs is a bit of a pain. They're also not as plentiful in my stash as they once were
What I do have, though, is a Synology NAS which can run a PXE TFTP server. I'll then try a network install of the boot CDs... Somehow
Has anyone done such a thing on an R32 or to be honest any other machine with a Synology NAS or similar setups?
Take a look at our

R32 PXE boot
Re: R32 PXE boot
I was able to install win 98 se in a thinkpad A30 this weekend using only pxe.
It was a really tricky process tbh, but key points of my setup were (I can add some details if there's some people interested):
- I installed FOG Project in my server (in my case an ubuntu server) to serve the boot disk images.
- Had to modify my main router config to send the proper parameters to the pxe request. I use OpenWrt in my router, basic config was done through the web ui, but there was additional setup done by command line.
- Since I wasn't able to serve full isos through FOG, only floppy images, I ended up being able of booting a darn Small Linux 2024 image and using it to access the hard drive to copy files from usb drive.
- Basically I copied the win 98 installer files to the main HDD through DSL, then used FOG to boot from the windows boot floppy and starting the installer from there.
I first tried installing freedos but I wasn't able to start the win 98 installer since it didn't detected the memory, the only way was booting from it's own boot floppy.
