Random hanging/freezing on A22m

#1 Post by remihesky » Fri Sep 19, 2025 11:54 am

Hey all! Been using my A22m again for fun and I've noticed it's started having random freezing, the computer won't shut down, but it'll become unresponsive to anything until I force it to shut down by holding the power button, doesn't seem to matter if it's in BIOS or in the OS, it'll do it regardless, and it also doesn't seem like it always happens in a set interval, sometimes it'll happen during the BIOS splash screen and other times it won't happen until I've been in the OS for a while.

I've tried a few things like running it without the battery, removing the Ultrabay device, reseating the RAM, replacing the thermal paste, but it still seems to do it.

If anyone has any ideas what might be causing it, I'm all ears, thanks!

I dont have much expertise with the A2x models, so take it with a shovel of salt!

Could be the BoD aka blink of death in early stage, i.e. still developing,
in which case it should be sufficient to solder a 2kOhm resistor to pin16 aka PWRGD and pin 24 aka VCC of the ADP3421, located at the mainboard bottom,
or replace the ADP3421 with a MAX1711. I recommend to do it anyway as a preemtive measure bc:
"The ADP3421 issue seems to be related to component aging in the power-good logic circuitry
which is exacerbated when the CPU clock frequency, and consequently the power supply, switches frequently."

According to german thinkpad-wiki the A2xs are also known to be affected by flexing,
if so i think its more likely the southbridge, unless your A22 shows a distorted screen, in that case id bet on the GPU.
In case of flexing a well done reflow should resolve the issue.

Try removing the LAN card and see what happens.

It doesn't sound like a BoD to me, but can very well be some other kind of planar problem nevertheless.

Good luck.
