S-Video or Composite Video out on Thinkpad r60 with Celeron

#1 Post by JoeHill02 » Sat Oct 22, 2011 2:30 pm

Hi,

A friend of mine has a Thinkpad r60 with a Celeron M processor. It is an older machine, but we just upgraded it to 2gb of RAM. It is plenty fast for playing videos. My friend would like to hook it up to his CRT TV (non HD, no hdmi, dvi, or vga input).

His r60 does not have the built in S-Video jack. My question is whether he can use a cheap VGA to S-Video/Component Video cable like this to connect the laptop to the TV:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S6 ... d_i=507846

Or, whether he must use a VGA to S-Video/Component Video converter box like this:

Thanks for your help!

Will need the box... The cheap adapters work only if the computer can output s-video/composite video on the VGA pins. As far as I know no Thinkpad does that. :(
