Thinkpad R61 Power Problems

#1 Post by surfdachannel » Fri Oct 28, 2011 11:30 pm

Strange issue with this unit. Bought as dead, but got it to power up sometimes. Boots to Bios screen when the A/C adapter is inserted. Shouldn't automatically start up when adapter is inserted into the machine. Also once it starts up the keyboard power button will not turn the machine off? I have to pull the battery and a/c unit to get it to power off. I have tried three different keyboards to get it to shut off and all don't turn it off or on. The only way it comes on is with the adapter plugged in and the battery does charge. Something on the motherboard is causing this I am thinking. Perhaps a maxim power chip or actually that is why I am here for input. Thanks.
