Thinkpad Software Installer on R51

#1 Post by lutami » Thu Apr 07, 2005 6:25 pm

Downloaded, installed and ran, works perfectly, updated all with no problems, machines running great .

BUT I uninstalled the Update Connector, didn't think it was needed anymore, it used to take hours and then sometimes hang the machine.

Now when I press the Access IBM button I get, 'Problem with Shortcut. Drive or Network Connection that the shortcut IBM Update Connector .Ink' refers to is unavailable, make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available

I need to press the Access IBM button 3 or 4 times before it loads.

On the start menu I now have 2 lots of Access IBM with roll down menus where-as before I updated there was only one.

The new one that has appeared has only the updated items in the roll down, should I remove the duplicates of these from the original menu...are these the shortcuts that the message is refering to.

Oh dear... I've just read that through...sounds a bit confusing...sorry but can anyone understand what I'm trying so badly to explain please. :?

Try to "restore" your computer to a date prior to your removal of the access software. Go to IBM's help about RESTORE

Access IBM and Software installer

#3 Post by strangethinker » Thu Apr 14, 2005 9:19 pm

Access IBM, the application that appears when you click the button is not currently supported in Software installer. It will be in the near future.
If I were you I would go to the support site and manually install Access IBM for your system to see if it corrects the problem.

Did You remove IBM folders from C:?
I did and got the same error with Access IBM, also shortcut for creating recovery CD's ceased to work.
I recoverde IBMTOOLS folder. Deleted content manually and leftt utils directory. This is what the shortcut refers to, files in that folder.
That cured the problem. I described it also in another topic.
