Replacement part question for A21m and R31
I tried searching for this problem but I couldn't find a solution so forgive me if this is a repost.
I have an old A21m type 2628 and I was just recently given an R31 type 2656, but the r31 has a bad drive in it. I was curious if I could just swap the drive from the A21 and add the memory from my A21m to the R31 w/o any issues. Thanks.

Yes you should be able to do that. The hardware (Diskdrives) should be compatible, except for issues with Windows. Windows does not like being moved ie: (put into a new environment - Different Memory/motherboard/displays) It may work ok and I assume that your talking about Win/XP. If its windows 98 no problem. You may have find on the IBM web site, different drivers to support different keyboards and video displays. I know alot about the R31, but not much about A21M. IBM even has a video on how to swap the drives on their web site. You can do start searching here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... idate=true

Thank you for your reply. Yes this is XP and I figured I would have to format which is no biggie. I just wanted to make sure the hdd and the ram would be happy in the newer laptop. Again thank you.storage_man wrote:1evilmonkey

The R31 requires PC133 due to the bus speed of the computer.1evilmonkey wrote:quick memory question. Is it possible for the r31 to use pc100 mem or does it have to be pc133? I have a 256 pc100 sodimm I would like to use but when I put it in the laptop it will not post, only shows the battery light and the power light flashes
