Z60t and Windows 7

#1 Post by jronald » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:22 pm

OK, had pretty serious problems getting it to install. CD/DVD drivers not withstanding. Tried 2 dozen workarounds and got no where. Finally decided to reset the defaults in the bios, and what do you know 7 installed without a hitch! Loaded system update 3.14, let it then update itself and dropped in the missing drivers.....and away we went. Still does some weird things with connecting to the wireless, but Im working on that.

W7 needs SystemUpdate 4.0 or higher! 3.15 (there's a newer 3.16) is for XP/Vista.

Ok updated to 4.0
Still fighting 2 missing drivers, Unknown Device and Video Controller.
I have thrown more than 2 dozen Video Controller and Chipset drivers at it.....nothing.

Nice work with that Z60t, the first ThinkPad over to SATA and the new style 20V AC adapter, among other firsts.

Try the Vista multi card reader drivers found here --> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-68053

You should expand the drivers then try each directory as a driver update to the unknown device. (This worked for me with a Z61m and T61 with the multi card readers and Win 7.)

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure that Z60t has Intel 900 integrated graphics, and there seems to be no W7 driver for that...

I think George is onto something with the 915 Video driver, the more I searched the more times I run into the same dead end....no W7 driver from Intel.

George is correct, Z61t has Intel GMA 950 graphics.

This post talks about using Vista Drivers -- don't know if that would work for you?

OK that's weird..........I downloaded an XP mobile 915 driver, on the lan. It complained but installed it, and fixed the video issue. Now if I could find the "unknown" driver I would be good to go.

Oh Wow -- that's great! I can't remember which machine, but since I've had a T42 and T42/R51 hybrid, as well as a Z61m, all running Windows 7, it may have been one of those -- I had an "unknown device" in Windows 7 which I was never able to identify -- but I also was unable to identify any problem running the OS either :?

@RBS -- Have you used any of this software before, and do you know the difference in WinDriver Ghost 3.00 Personal and My Drivers 5.00? When I clicked the 'details' button on My Drivers 5.00, it gave a pretty good description of what it does -- as far as this non-geek is able to understand

When I clicked the details button on WinDriver Ghost 3.00 Personal, the page listed all the software, along with the information that all the software is available for a FREE 15 day trial and comes with an uninstaller, so that sounded pretty good to me. I'm not sure how to choose between the My Drivers 5.00 and WinDriver Ghose 3.00.

I don't know any of those programs, nor do I use one.
It seems that both those programs are old(er) and have not been updated in a long time.

Here is some competition:
http://techpp.com/2010/08/30/top-5-wind ... are-tools/
http://driver-update-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

I use Acronis True Image to take an image once everything is installed and fully up and running.
I keep images of my laptops on my PC hard drive and NAS.
An image restore is way faster (as in minutes only) and easier than forever reinstalling/updating/updating/updating.....
