ThinkPad R40 AC Adapter/cord TIP SIZE??
I have one ThinkPad R40 2723 today to present.
The AC Adapter or cord TIP is too loose and falling out of laptop. Need new one.
(1) Is there way to replace just the TIP? (or I'll just buy the whole part)
(2) Have searched all of Leveno website for tip size and cannot find it. I looked everywhere. Even on my original IBM Adapter. I've got all other spec's on the Adapter but no tip size. (72watt, Input 100/240V, 1.5/0.9A, 50/60 Hz Output 16V dc, 4.5A) Unless one of these numbers is for Tip, please let me know.
Does anyone happen to know this Tip Size? or where else to find?
Many thanks!

If the tip falls out, then it is not your tip that is the problem.
You need a new DC-jack in your laptop, that will hold the tip properly.
The tip is a standard 5.5mm barrel.

Oh gosh, I just saw this film that shows how to replace the DC Jack.
This is much too involved and complicated.
And probably not worth the cost of bringing to repair place. (even though actual part cost on Ebay is hardly anything.)

I think I will use tape to hold adapter plug into jack, for as long as that will work.
What a shame.

Another option - if the laptop mainly lives a stationery life - is to get a docking station, these are fairly inexpensive nowadays.
Good luck.
Good luck.

If you look inside the DC-jack, you should see a half-moon shaped strip of metal, that normally 'clamps' the outside of the tip.
Make a fine hook from e.g. a paperclip, then poke around inside the jack to make that strip 'rounder' so it will hold the tip again.
Remove AC and battery before you do that!

Good luck.
Getting a docking station would make sense at this point, even when trying to correct the inside of jack as RBStuff suggests.
But I need to understand... if my DC jack will be defective, will a docking station's jack connect well to it and function? I suppose it will work even though I don't understand how it can if other is defective. (you don't need to explain this part. I just need to know if it will work regardless.)
Thank you again!

Docking station transmits power through the port that connects is to the laptop (wide one on the bottom of the machine) and not through the laptop's power outlet.
