I recently bought an R51 (late 2004) from eBay. It's in beautiful shape, however as I have come to expect from buying used laptops, the screen was a bit tired. By tired I mean that yellowish warm tinge that I can't stand.
I bought a replacement panel (glossy) from laptopscreen.com for $89. It turned out to be Samsung screen (the screen in the R51 was LG).
Frustration involved the thinklight being attached to the display cable (there is no slack - you attach the cable to the screen and it's tough to get the thinklight clipped in the lid (and vice versa.) The antenna wire attached to the top of the lid didn't make things easier.
Finally I was able to get everything back together, with no leftover screws, and the laptop is none the worse for it. I've done screens on macs and a couple of older thinkpads (600e's) but this was more difficult.
I now have a brilliant bright white screen!
R51 screen replacement success...
