Operating system not found on R50e

#1 Post by lampshade2912 » Thu Mar 01, 2012 9:59 am

Hello,

I have a problem with my old IBM laptop.

Half an hour ago, I heard this strange scratching sound, as if something inside the computer was trying to get a hold of something, but couldn't quite do it. It was an unusual sound.

The computer soon crashed. Now when I switch the computer on it says PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent and then Operating System not found.

Would you happen to know what the problem is, and how it can be solved?

Regards

You might want to boot to a Linux disc just to see if you can access the drive. If not, the prescribed solution is probably a new drive.

Hello, will Linux recovery work if I have been using Windows?

ZaZ, is trying to test if your hard drive is accessible. If your hard drive is accessible, you can backup all your information/documents/files in case the drive is about to fail. If you are unable to access your drive, then the culprit was a dying hard drive.

You can boot to the desktop with a Linux CD without need for the hard drive. It runs off the CD and you should be able to see if you can get access to the hard drive. If you can't then perhaps a new hard drive is in order. If you can, maybe it's a good time to back your files up and something else could be broken.
