Z61 m ati2dvag BSOD and motherboard replacing dilemmas...

#1 Post by Bro » Mon Mar 12, 2012 10:55 am

Hello people,
I know, I'm bit too optimistic, but I'll ask anyway :)

I'm having problem with BSOD (at2dvag blue screen of death) so I'm thinking is it possible to replace motherboard with the one that has intel graphic card?

1. Is it possible?
2. Do you expect it will solve the problem?
3. if possible, where can I find list of compatible motherboards and place to buy second hand or something?

My laptop is Thinkpad z61m 9450-HAG

Thanks for understanding;)

What OS are you running? XP, Vista or W7?

Before I'd jump into swapping the motherboard, I'd run this for a while:

Do bear in mind that the camera will not work with an Intel board, if this is a concern for you.

My modest experience with these machines is that it's the VRAM that goes corrupt in most cases and makes itself known with a number of stripe/dot patterns on the screen. Your BSOD is hopefully just a driver conflict, although I can't be 100% certain.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link!
MB replacement will be last step, of course, but I'll keep it in mind.

Sometimes I get instant BSOD, usually if I run some kind of video material...youtube, video archive...but not always.
But sometimes I get weird colored dot patterns and after a minute or two, systems is freezed :)

Thanks a lot for info!! I'll keep on investigating on this topic...

Cheers!
