Hardware upgrade for Thinkpad A22p
Hi you guys out there,
I just got as heritage a Thinkpad A22p with Mobile Intel Pentium IIIE, 1000 MHz and 256Mb of RAM 128+128 (I think there are 2 slots).
Question: can I add a faster CPU, I think 1Gb is the fastest CPU for an A22p but is it possible to have a, say 1,3 GHz? And which type (I am not that practice with socket and so on).
I also want to add RAM, which ram does an A22 accept? Can you suggest one to me?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
You already have the fastest CPU any A22p will accept.
RAM maxes out at 2x256MB PC100 or low-density PC133 (the stick must have 8 chips on each side, for a total of 16).
Newer hard drive would likely be a good investment if you're intent on using the machine on a regular basis.

Thanks ajkula66, that was fast!
I am going to buy new ram right now!. Concerning the hard drive, does this increase the speed or not?
I dont think I will have storage problem because I will use a network storage disk.
Thanks
Franco

What hard drive is in there now? A larger capacity, more modern, drive would probably perform much faster than a small 4200 RPM drive, for example.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Of course!,
my disk is a; IBM-DJSA-232 (32 GB, 5400 RPM, Ultra-ATA/66)

I see. That drive is not bad, but a larger capacity drive at the same RPM would be snappier because of the greater density. And if you are going to be using Windows with limited RAM (even 512MB) you are going to constantly be using the hard drive for virtual memory, so a little more HDD speed will probably be noticeable. With a different OS that uses RAM more efficiently, the current HDD would be just fine.
The other thing is the amount of money spent on old hardware like this, trying to make it a little faster, would buy newer hardware. That said, I still use my A21p. I just don't try to make it do things beyond it's present capabilities.

That hard drive is the original 12.5mm one, at least a decade old. A new one should work a lot better...
