Stupid me... Fresh install of XP problems...

#1 Post by adam777 » Fri Apr 22, 2005 2:49 pm

Hi all.
I have R40 2723-EG4 and i want to do a fresh install of XP PRO from a commercial CD (even a legal one... ).
SO, i backed-up everything i thought i should, download all drivers in advance and joyfully formatted my two partitions (leaving the hidden one untouched).
Guess what? i was wrong...
It turns out that some of IBM drivers won't install now on the cause of "invalid machine type".
Now, the reason i did this install is because i want to install XP PRO over the pre-loaded XP home.
Most notablly is the HotKey features. i managed to "install" some parts using the .inf files, but it's not an ideal solution of course.
Now, is this situation hopeless or there is a way to make those things install on my machine?

important note - the machine actually came with XP Pro and not the pre-loaded XP home because i bought it from the IBM dealer at my university and it's part of the agreement with the university...
worst case - i have an image from two weeks ago ready to be reloaded but i really want this fresh install...

thanks alot in advance, Adam.
