A31p black screen

Just got an eBay A31p - unfortunately some problems (which the seller denies).

Completely black screen (but can see image very faintly) - looks like backlight is gone
system boots OK (can see Windows booting and green disk light)

Switching using F7 (to turn the LCD on/off I don't have an external monitor) I see sometimes a flash of light in the lower right corner of the ThinkPad LCD.

Any idea is it the inverter? If so can I use the inverter from my working UXGA A30p?

I also have a dead motherboard T42p UXGA with good screen - can this be of any use? Screen?? (Assuming its the A31p screen and not the inverter).

It's most likely not the inverter.

Try the screen from T42p with a known good A3x inverter and see where that gets you.
