Better fan for R52?

#1 Post by aPanzerIV » Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:01 pm

I guess this is my first real thinkpad that I've had for more than a month. I've grown abeit concerned about its cooling. When I got it I cleaned the heatsink and cpu/chipset with goo gone, and replaced the paste with arctic silver 5. The horrid stench that has become a inside joke with my friends is gone, but the problem persists. I can't give any exact temps, but the fan is on constantly, although never on high, its defiantly idling in the 50C range, possibly 60C when I'm playing minecraft. I looked on ebay but it already seems i have the better heatsink with 3 heatpipes. Is there a better heatsink or fan I can slap in this? I plan on upgrading the cpu from a 740 to a 780 so I'm expecting an increase in temps. Help appreciated :)

You don't clean a CPU/fan with GooGone, you use Isopropyl Alcohol 91% for that!
The GooGone needs a few hours in an open environment to properly evaporate, and you use it only on the outside of the laptop!
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
