R31 2656 2GG screen brightness followin inverter brd replace

#1 Post by led_snapper » Sat Apr 30, 2005 8:34 am

I had the inverter board replaced yesterday. All seemed fine until I noticed screen brightness was dim, so tried to increase it. Noticed it was supposed to be on max, so went down the levels and just over half way now seems max brightness. If you keep going down from there it gets dimmer and ironically that isn't as dim as the second from highest position.
In summary it seems the settings have been frameshifted. Anybody else come across this and know of a fix.

I've tried updating the BIOS but this doesn't fix the prob.
Service manual says you are supposed to Use CE utility disk to set an ID for new inerter board/LCd combination. I know the engineer that fitted the board just plugged it in and that was it. I mentioned this ID setting business and he said he hadn;t come across that as being needed before. I'm not sure I believe him.

The CE utility disk would have to be used if the manufacturer of the new LCD is different from the old. I don't know if that could cause the specific problem you're seeing.

Try running the new software installer from IBM's site. Let it update all your drivers, and see if that fixes it.
